In October 2024, the joint experimental team led by the Zijinshan Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences successfully realized kilometre terahertz/submillimeter wave wireless communication transmission of high-definition video signals based on superconducting reception in Xueshan Ranch, Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province. This is the first time internationally that high-sensitivity superconducting receiver technology has been successfully applied to long-distance terahertz wireless communication systems, with a transmission distance of 1.2 kilometers and a signal transmission power of only 10 microwatts. This experiment lays a key technological foundation for the development of future space/air to ground high-capacity terahertz communication.
